Is Your SEO Company Making Promises That Are Too Good to be True?

Written by: Darlene

Hiring an SEO company could be a really smart investment that could help you take your business to the next rung on the success ladder. But hiring the right SEO company is vital. There are a lot of companies out there calling themselves experts and making recommendations to website owners. But in some cases, their promises are way too good to be true. Read on for some of the signs to watch out for when you hire an SEO company.

google rankings

Guaranteed #1 Google Rankings

If your SEO company promises this, you should see it as a red flag. Search engine optimization is not an exact science. It's conceivable to promise page 1 rankings but spot 1 isn't something any skilled SEO firm can reliably guarantee. If you're getting this promise, especially if you're in a competitive industry, the SEO company either isn't being realistic or isn't being honest.

Number 1 rankings sound nice but is your site ranking for highly targeted keyword phrases, or the easiest, least competitive phrases that no one really searches for? Several page 1 rankings for highly targeted keywords could be better than a #1 spot on a phrase that doesn't convert for you.

Lighting Fast Results

Sure, the idea of having an SEO company turn things around for you quickly is attractive-sounding. But be careful that you're not expecting unrealistic things. An SEO company who promises overnight success may not be telling you the truth. And, they could be using black hat SEO techniques that could get you immediate results but those results could be via unsavoury methods that might be temporary at best and could cause your site to be banned in search engines at worst.

Are the Promises too Vague?

Some SEO companies will promise success but won't tell you all that much about how they'll help you gain success. Be sure you deal with someone who will tell you how they will help you. They may not be able to pinpoint the precise spot you'll attain on Google within 90 days and they may not be able to give you a specific traffic number but you should be able to see some potential benefits for doing business with them.

Doing due diligence when considering dealing with a new SEO company is smart. Check their online reputation, look for testimonials about their business, and ask them about their methods. You should feel comfortable that you're going to be dealing with someone who is realistic, professional, and who will be able to deliver on their promises.

Your Turn

Have you been caught off-guard by different SEO companies and the promises they make?
